If Christ had not been born, no one could be born again. And without the new birth, we would all be lost in our sin. And no one would be coming to rescue us from our plight. Without Christmas, life on earth would ultimately be pointless. Everyone would be left to fend for themselves. There would be no divine assistance, and no holy love coming into our heart from our Creator. And a heart without God’s love is a heart that lacks true peace and power.
No wonder people attempt almost anything in a desperate search for hope.
C.S. Lewis wrote, “And out of that hopeless attempt has come nearly all that we call human history—money, poverty, ambition, war, prostitution, classes, empires, slavery—the long terrible story of man trying to find something other than God which will make him happy.”
Hopelessness is a terrible feeling. But it doesn’t have to consume you. There is an answer to man’s greatest need. The Savior of the world was born that day in Bethlehem, and He has been saving people from their sins ever since.
