Angola: Minister Guarantees Efforts to Fight Illegal Churches

Angolan Press, Luanda – The minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, assured Tuesday in Luanda, the efforts to fight illegal church, as well as the sects.

The Cabinet official was answering the questions raised by the MPs of the 6th Commission of National Assembly, during a working visit at the Ministry of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, adding that the works are being executed in partnership with the Ministries of Home Affairs and Justice.

According to the minister, the action will oblige the revision of law 2/04 of May 21, related to liberty of religious assembly, updating to the current national context as a way of fighting ” vigorously ” the coming up of new religious congregation whose religious assembly are contrary to our habits and customs to Angolan culture.

The minister also said that regarding the Islam whose process was not approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, there are many other religions in the same situation, and their temples will be closed until the new pronunciation in the case.

Rosa Cruz e Silva announced that there are at least 194 religious sects that were not authorized to have their activities. “Besides these, there is a long list of more than 1000 applications to be authorized”, she said.
