Representative James Njenga and Kiambu Municipal Council askaris demolished a church, Christian Foundation Fellowship Church, which was being built on Kiambu prisons land.

“Many people were duped by the former councillors in a last minute rush to dispose of council assets due to the change of government,” he said.

Njenga said buildings put up on public land will be demolished too. “The are no public toilets because they were given to individuals. There are no garbage collection points because the previous council allocated the land to individuals who have put up shops,” he said.

Pastor Willie Wanderi of the Christian Foundation Fellowship Church said they were relocated by the municipal council and has all the required documents.

“The church bought a plot from the Kiambu Municipal Council in 2006. But the land was along the town’s sewer line. The council gave us this land after the approval of Local Government minister Paul Otuoma,” he said.

Wanderi said the ward representative broke the law because he ignored a court order barring the municipal council from interfering with the construction of the church.

He accused Njenga of hiring goons to steal their materials. Three weeks ago, Kiambu Municipal Council security guard was killed and another seriously injured during the theft of the mayor and deputy mayor chains. Land documents and Sh220,000 were stolen.
