13218268Lack of basic health care service and tools have made life unbearable for people living in Akuapem Kwakwaduam and other towns. Residents living mostly in remote areas have no option than to travel long distances to access medical care.

It is in this direction that the eleven (11) midwifery centers in the Akuapem Traditional Area have taken delivery of 1,000 pieces of obstetrical kits with excitement and relief.

The reason is that more people can be reached with basic health care especially in maternal health care. The 11 midwifery centers which received the items are, Okrakwadwo, Adukrom, Asseseso, Abiriw, Akropong, Manfe, Mampong, Obosomase, Aburi, Larteh and Oboadaka all in the Eastern Region.

Presenting the items to the centres, President of the New York-based Kwakwaduam Association, Dr. Twum Boafo, said his outfit is donating the health kits as part of efforts to help the needy and vulnerable in the area.

He indicated that the association intends to continue this annually to help people back home and contribute to the nation building as far as healthcare is concerned.

He says the association identifies the challenges facing the Akuapem Traditional Area as key and therefore decided to move in swiftly and put smiles on the faces of residents. Dr. Twum Boafo disclosed that their main aim is to see reduction in maternal health cases.

On his part, the Assistant Medical Director of Akropong Health Center, Lydia Gordon who could not hide her excitement, said the items could not have come at a better time as they have mapped up a plan to reach some remote areas where maternal health has become very crucial. Akropong Aboasahemaa, Nana Obrago assured that the medical kits will be put to good use.
