Kwakwaduam Association of New York Celebrates 2017 End of Year Fundraising Annual Dinner Dance

Kwakwaduam Association of New York has celebrated its 2017 Annual End of Year Dinner Dance over the MLK weekend in the Bronx. The theme for the fund-raising was once again “Enhancing Maternal Care in Ghana – the Obstetric Delivery Kit Project” and was to raise funds to buy Obstetric Delivery Kits and Electronic Blood Pressure Machines for effective deliveries and to enhance the quality of work done by midwives in Ghana.

The Chairperson for the occasion was Dr. Cynthia Gyamfi Bannerman an OB/GYN at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital with Dr. Angela Gonzalez an OB/GYN at the Montefiore Hospital/Albert Einstein Medical School in the Bronx as well as Mr. Sam Addo formerly of Delta Airlines as the Co-Chairpersons. They sympathized with the predicament of our women during prenatal care and delivery and supported the fundraising initiative immensely. Dr. Asiedu of the Oman Clinic in his introduction of Dr Gyamfi said she has been involved in research that changed the management of  Preterm Deliveries in the USA

The President of the Organization Mr. Mark Saforo said Kwakwaduam continues to do well and thanked all those who have supported the Organization over the years. He said Kwakwaduam membership was open to all those who share the vision of the Organization that the best part of every person’s life is what he or she gave back to society. He enumerated the impressive list of projects undertaken by Kwakwaduam over the years. He indicated that this year Kwakwaduam donated scholarships to five of the Kids of Parents of Kwakwaduam going to Colleges, in keeping with the ideals of the Ama Oforiwa Scholarship program. He thanked his Executive for a work well done.

Dr. Kwame Aniapam Boafo, a Gynecologist in Albert Einstein Medical College and Consultant to Kwakwaduam Association launched the Fund-raising campaign and amplified the disease burden of our mothers delivering in abject conditions in the villages of Ghana and how the Delivery Kits would enhance the quality of care delivered to our mothers. He indicated that in a similar drive last year Kwakwaduam donated 1000 delivery Kits and 10 Electronic Blood Pressure machines to the Akwapim, Prampram and Drobo Health Districts in Ghana

Awards were presented to deserving members of the Community and Members of Kwakwaduam. The Community Service Award went to Dr Kaledzi and Ms Esther G. Agyare of Eddie African Shop. Ms Sylvia Asiedu and Mr. Kwame Ofosu received the President’s Award for their outstanding contribution to the success of the Organization. The Friends of Kwakwaduam Award went to Ms Patience Emenike of Pioneer Home Care and Rodney Ayew of Active Cares Company

The Consul General of New York, Dr. Amoako praised Kwakwaduam for the classy function and reiterated the need for Ghanaians Living Abroad to organize to be able to make a difference in the development of Ghana. He indicated his desire to establish the Ghanaian Ancestry Register and to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the services provided at the Consulate

Dr. Kofi Boateng CEO of the Harlem Development Corporation on his part thanked Kwakwaduam for the role it played in the ROPA and stressed the need for Ghanaians to get their Ghanaian IDs updated to enable them to vote in the next elections

The function was well organized and fun filled. The food was exquisite and DJ Rockson kept everybody dancing all night. Media activity was provided by Francis Boanoh and his FAWEB Solutions, not to mention the MC Patrick Akosah who was electrifying as always
