Lagos based Nigerian drug kingpin ran one of the largest drug smuggling rings in America –
NigeriaExchange News – A Nigerian man, based in Lagos Island, Lagos in Nigeria, ran one of the largest drug smuggling networks ever discovered in the U.S, prosecutors say. The Nigerian was extradited from Nigeria last and is to be sentenced in July after pleading guilty earlier this year.
Prosecutors say that the man, nicknamed “Papa”, ran a drug ring from Nigeria which recruited Nigerians born in the U.S to smuggle drugs into the U.S. by swallowing capsules filled with heroin. The couriers would fly from Nigeria to Europe and then on to some major cities in the U.S like New York, Maryland, Houston and Atlanta. where they would pass out the dozens of pellets that were in their stomachs.
The couriers practiced by swallowing whole kola nuts or large balls of fufu to ensure that they could eventually swallow the large pellets of drugs. Once they were ready, the couriers take medicine to constipate themselves and when they arrive at their destination, they take another medicine to enables them pass out the contents of their stomach easily.
There have been cases where the container used to put the drugs before swallowing, usually a condom, ruptures or leaks, and a drug overdose ensued and the courier died.
