Malawi: VP Urged Chiefs to Disassociate Religion From Politics

Malawi News Agency, Lilongwe – Vice President Khumbo Kachali has urged chiefs in Mangochi to desist influence by some politicians who are misleading the local leaders by tying politics to religion.

Speaking in Mangochi when he visited some Chiefs under Senior Chief Makanjira, Chimwala Mponda and Traditional Authority Namavi, Kachali said politicians take advantage of traditional leaders by linking politics to religion to gain political mileage.

“It is very surprising to note that some politicians are misleading chiefs here in Mangochi by associating their political party with Islam and this is very shameful since politics and religion are quite different.

“In Malawi we have Muslims and Christians as well and we love each other and work together as one people so there is no need for a certain political party to take advantage of one religion in misleading people for them to get in power in 2014,” observed Kachali

He also said that Chiefs have a role to tell people the truth therefore only the Peoples Party Government can improve lives of chiefs observing that it already shown remarkable achievements in two years hence there is need to give Dr Joyce Banda another chance to rule this country come 2014 for the development to continue.

Speaking at the same function Minister of Home affairs Uladi Mussa said time has come for Malawians to be told the truth that the current administration has good qualities to govern the country.

“There are some failed politicians here in Malawi who want to confuse you people by associating religion and political parties because they know that their time had already expired to rule this country again and they are criticizing the government out of jealousy,” Mussa said.

All the visited Senior Chiefs were united in thanking Kachali for the visit pledging further support to the current government.
