(The Daily Trust) President Goodluck Jonathan has said that more Muslims than Christians have died in the terrorist attacks so far unleashed on the nation.
The president said this yesterday while speaking at the 14th meeting of the Honorary International Investor Council (HIIC) held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The council is charged with the responsibilities of looking into Nigeria’s investment environment, advice on areas to improve on and attract businessmen across the globe.
Jonathan also dispelled insinuations that insurgency was a religious issue, saying the terrorists were a group of individuals backed by their foreign counterparts who were determined to destabilise the nation.
He said in carrying out their deadly attacks, the insurgents threw explosives into churches and mosques, stressing that “more Muslims have died in the conflict than Christians”.
The president, who assured of a conducive atmosphere for investments, said it was obvious from the emergency rule declared in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States that the country was winning the war against terrorism.
The president noted that his administration regards security as key to attracting investments and development and would do everything possible to guarantee the security of lives, property and investments.
In her remarks, the coordinator of the HIIC, Baroness Lynda Chalker, urged the government to take pro-active measures to tackle oil theft as it was “diminishing income into the treasury’.’
