Nigerians Urged to Shun Religious Bigotry

baBy Abdullateef Aliyu (THE DAILY TRUST) Ilorin — Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Chief Bayo Ojo yesterday charged Nigerians to eschew religious bigotry and rededicate themselves to the project Nigeria.

This, he stressed, would fast-track the nation’s development. He was speaking at the public presentation of a biography in honour of the late former Defence Minister and Wali of Ilorin, Alhaji Mahmoud Akanbi Oniyangi written by Mr. Niyi Olowoyeye, a former aide of the honouree.

Ojo, who described the honouree whose law firm he once headed as a detribalised Nigerian, who cared less about people’s religious or ethnic affinities, urged Nigerians to take a cue from his patriotism and untainted love for his country.

He said, “We must try to eschew religious bigotry, ethnicity and do-or-die politics in our life. We should all focus on the project Nigeria which Alhaji Oniyangi stood for. He loved Nigeria so much and he was very patriotic to the country.”
