Myjoyonline – Presiding Bishop of mega church Lighthouse Chapel International, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills says Ghana is being ruled by a few people’s extreme love for money.
He cited the recent guinea fowl “Akonfem” saga in the GYEEDA rot as an example of how a few greedy people’s love for money is killing the country.
Bishop Dag Heward-Mills was preaching on the topic “The Year of Prayer” at the 31st Watch Night Service.
He stated: “Ghana is not being ruled by what is good for the country. A lot of things are done in Ghana not because it is good for Ghana but because of somebody’s love for money.”
“When you hear the stories you are amazed that billions of cedis is put in guinea fowl…guinea fowls…billions – 47 billion old cedis to make guinea fowl…fantastic…you can’t believe it…and you can’t even see them. I have driven all the way to the north and I did not find any guinea fowl,” he said.
Bishop Heward-Mills said it is sad to find that governments are selective in whom they give contracts to, and more often than not, people take road contracts and do not deliver and as a results people die on the roads and yet the contractor walks free.
“This is why some people have suggested that there should be death penalty for corruption because last year over 18,000 people died on the roads and some were due to bad roads,” he said.
Bishop Heward-Mills, who is known for his usual forthright statement about Ghana, said it is becoming almost useless to vote in Ghana because for the past 58 years, no government has made any real difference in the lives of Ghanaians.
He noted, for instance, that for 58 years no government has been able to construct one road to link Accra and Kumasi, the two biggest cities in the country and yet there had been head of state after head of state.
“People tend to vote for one party or the other based on tribal sentiments, money or other selfish interests, but for those who are objective they can tell that no political party has made any real difference – all of them are the same in terms of failing to provide roads, water, electricity and other things,” he said.
The Bishop is, however, urging Ghanaians to pray for every government that comes to power because they are usually controlled by spiritual forces that cause them to do the wrong things.
He argued that there is an evil prince (spirit) hovering over Ghana and controlling the leaders to take decisions that prevent real development and prosperity, and that is why there is a need for all to pray for the leaders.
“Whatever decision the leaders take would affect all of us, so we can’t sit on the fence – we have to pray for them otherwise their decisions will affect us negatively,” said.
Bishop Dag Heward-Mills declared 2014 a year of prayer and invited all Ghanaians to watch and pray for the leadership so that they will yield to God’s directions rather than being under the influence of their greed, lust and evil spirit.
