Chicago Celebrates The Life of Togbe Venya I

DSC_1059July 5 2014 Chicago:Celebration of the Life of the late Togbe Venya I a.k.a Kwame Ampofo, took place on Saturday July 5 at the six thousand seater Jones Convocation Center at Chicago State University, 9501 S. Martin Luther King Drive. About 650 attendees were present to honor and celebrate the life of Togbe Venya for his numerous contributions to the Ghanaian Community in Chicago and the Ewe Community home and abroad. The late Torgbe Venya I, died at the Advent Hospital, Bolingbrook Illinois, after a short illness. He was 67. He was the chief of the Ewe community of Chicago and President of the Chicago Ghanaian Chieftaincy Council. Torgbe was a founding member of both CEANA and The Ewe Association of Metropolitan Chicago. He was also the Patron of Mrantie Kuo of Bolingbrook and a host of other associations and organizations..

Earlier in the day, there was a Church Service and Visitation at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 8301 S. Damen Avenue, Chicago IL 60620. Attendance was about 300 mourners.
