sankofaonline.com – Chicago, Illinis, July 25 2017: The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago, GNC, has informed all Ghanaian media that the most astounding African cultural festival in the Diaspora, Chicago’s Ghanafest, is slated on July 29 2017 at the historic Washington Park from 10 A.M to 9 P.M. The original Ghanafest, Chicago, is upon us once again and this year the organizers have lined up yet another eye pleasing, entertaining, exciting and fabulous cultural and other shows better seen than described. Other showcases are the Ghanaian traditional harvest scene, Ghanaian Chiefs, Queen-mothers, princes and princesses of the chief’s court adorned in the most elegant Ghanaian traditional fabrics, gold ornaments and other paraphernalia.
The annual celebrations of Ghanaian culture, started 29 years ago by the Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago has grown into a cultural phenomenon that turns the Washington Park into African “Village”, full of all the paraphernalia and the ingredients that make a traditional durbar like Ghanafest a unique experience for families and individuals! The celebrations include ethnic foods, music, arts and craft, networking and a variety of entertaining activities for the youth and the elderly. There will be cultural displays from all corners of the diverse cultures that constitute Ghana!
The newest high-life sensational musician, Joseph Nkrumah Buaben , popularly known as NeroX, is expected to give an epic performance at the festival. Nero X is the leading name in Ghana now when high-life and inspirational songs are mentioned, he entered Ghana Music industry with his still trending tune tagged Osey. Ghanaian children will entertain the gathering with live Adowa, Agbadza etc. whilst a collection of all the Ghanaian musical talents in the Chicago area in a live band performance are heavily tipped bring the “park down” with an expected breathtaking performance!
A taste of Ghana would remind you of the home made waakye, jollof rice, Kenkey, shittor and many more will take you to the streets of Accra, Kumasi and other towns and villages in Ghana! The President of the GNC, Paa Kwasi Sam, informed the community that His Excellency, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Dr. Barffour Adjei-Bawuah , will make this years Ghanafest his first point of call since assuming office. Dr. Barffour Adjei-Bawuah will be the honorary guest for this year’s celebrations. Others expected to attend the festival includes Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Presidential Candidate of the Progressive Peoples Party and Group Nduom, The Governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner,Minister for Tourism, Catherine Afeku, Deputi Minister of Chieftaincy and Cultural affairs Paul Essien will be in attendance to grace the occasion. There will be a TV show dedicated to promote the festival on Channel 7 (ABC 7 ) on Saturday between 6:00 am to 7:30 am!
