Kenya: Coast Police to Enforce Ban On Crusades Following Sunday Attack

kenya_intro_mapBy Eugene Okumu (THE STAR) A team of police officers and officers from the CID, crime prevention unit and the anti-terror unit have launched a manhunt for two suspects at the Coast following an attack on a church in Likoni yesterday.

Coast PPO Aggrey Adoli has said that the team of officers has been put together to look into obtaining crucial evidence leading to the apprehension of the two suspects who carried out the attack on the Earthquake Miracle Ministry Church in Likoni at around 6.45 pm.

Likoni DCIO George Mutonya identified the explosive device used in the attack as a Russian made F! Grenade used during World War II. Adoli who placed the number of injured at 17, has further reminded Coast residents that the ban on crusades past 5:30 pm that was issued last year is still in effect.

The PPO urged residents to adhere to the directives to ensure their own safety and enable the police to protect them. Adoli’s remarks come in the wake of a wave of attacks in various parts of the country that have left several dead, scores injured and many others displaced.

Yesterday, two people were critically injured when a grenade was hurled into a restaurant they were in near Pumwani Maternity Hospital. Eyewitnesses say that the occupants of an unidentified vehicle threw a grenade at the Mwapambe restaurant opposite the maternity hospital before speeding off.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack by they are similar to others that were carried out in the northern part of the country in Garissa for which the AL-Shabab claimed responsibility.
