Kenya: State Told to Act On Crime

By Kerubo Lornah, The Star – A church leader has called on the goverment to intensify security patrols in churches across the country. Kenya Coast Field Seventh Day Adventist executive director Zachariah Marwa said terrorists threats should not be taken for granted especially in churches.

He said it is the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens.”The government should ensure there is tight security in all places including worship area to curb loss of lives,” Marwa said. He said the proposal of some members of the clergy that they be armed with guns might not be a lasting solution to insecurity.

“It is not logical for the government to give out guns to the clergy. If it is a must for someone to have, then let them be licensed to carry personal guns,” Marwa said. He asked security agents to intensify their efforts in fighting insecurity.

Marwa called on both Muslims and Christians to co-exist and work together in fighting terrorism.”There is need of all Kenyans to co-exist. Let Christians and Muslims live in harmony. Let not anyone of us be used by the devil to carry out his agendas. For instance the issue of burning a church or destroying property is not something that God advocates us to do,” he said.
