A Long Island woman stands accused of giving birth to a girl and leaving it for dead Sunday after tossing the baby into a trash can at the home where she works as a live-in housekeeper.

Santos Elena Ruiz Solano, 26, gave birth to the baby Sunday at the waterfront mansion and abused the girl to the point she succumbed to her injuries as her mother sought medical attention, police said.

Ruiz Solano put the dead newborn in a plastic bag before throwing it into the trash can at the massive West Islip home, cops said.

She then went to a local hospital after suffering complications from childbirth, at which point the baby was found and given to hospital staff, according to police.

It is not clear who found the lifeless baby, and a Suffolk County Police spokesperson declined further comment when reached by MailOnline.

The exact nature of the baby’s injuries was also not known by the spokesperson, who said the county medical examiner was performing an autopsy at the time of the call.
