Miracle – Give January As a Tithe

Miracle – Give January As a Tithe

tithingThe Observer , Kampala – I was recently driving to church for prayers (we started our annual 21-day fasting and praying) and on radio, Apostle John Bunjo and Pastor Michael Kimuli were calling on Christians to use January to seek God in a special way.

That it is not a month for a Christian to enjoy the comforts of good food and a warm bed. Whoever is in position to fast should do so. Whoever is not able to fast or even join a church programme of daily prayers, at least do something extra in your home this month: like leaving your bed for a prayerful sleeping spot on the floor. There are many ways of offering sacrifice.

It was strange, because I had been in silent thought about exactly that as I approached my church. Many Christians consider such a fast as one called for only when one is in urgent need of a miracle; as a way of arm-twisting God into giving us what we want, even when the season is not right. Well, God does as He deems fit. Oftentimes, He does not give us what we want, but what we need.

I thought back to 2008 when God first instructed my church, New Jerusalem Deliverance Centre, to come to Him with a 21-day January fast and prayer. I thought then, surely February is finding me a miracle-flooded woman. I had never done anything like that: camping at church in the biting cold in addition to night prayers and fasting. I felt sure I would soon be sailing on miracles.

But come February and I faced a huge blow that threatened my very faith! I was confused; January was supposed to pave way for miracles, not tears. But months later, the Holy Spirit helped me understand that January 2008 was about equipping me with the necessary grace to take what lay ahead in stride.

It was a turning point for me spiritually. I stopped seeking God because I had my eyes set on a particular miracle; I started taking every January as my ‘tithe’ off the year God has given me. The way I do with my income.

Tithing is difficult, but when you tithe, you are really securing and multiplying what remains after giving back to God (read Malachi 3:10-11). January is just midway. You can still dedicate the rest of this year in God’s hands by going the extra mile in sacrifice and prayer this month.
