Namibia: MTC Plans Gospel Concert With Rebecca Malope

SOUTH African gospel sensation Rebecca Malope will be lifting the musical spirit in Namibia at the MTC Gospel Concert which takes place on 31 May.

The concert forms part of a weekend of music as MTC celebrates the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) fifth year of existence as well as 25 years of Namibia’s independence.

This announcement comes hot on the heels of MTC’s revelation that American R&B hit-maker Trey Songz will be heading to Namibia as the main act at an independence celebratory concert which is to take place a day before Malope’s show on 30 May.

Multiple award-winning act Rebecca Malope will be joined on stage by the winner of the Best Gospel Artist 2015 and two other selected gospel singers. No auditions will be held as the selection of the musicians will be at the discretion of MTC.

Malope has released 35 chart breaking albums, sold millions of copies, won countless music awards, has been honoured by institutions of higher learning, is well respected by her peers and revered by legions of her fans. She has graced the stage at some of the most prestigious events, singing at Nelson Mandela’s presidential inauguration in 1994, at a gospel festival in Washington DC in 1997, and performing in countries like DRC, Zambia, Israel, UK, America and across the African continent as well as in Namibia where she has secured a big fan base.

“We have a lot to be proud of as a country and we therefore want to celebrate this with all Namibians and at the same time show immense appreciation for the loyal support of our customers. Music is the food of love and the power of music unifies because it is a universal language,” said chief human capital and corporate affairs officer at MTC, Tim Ekandjo.

Tickets are available from Computicket outlets countrywide for N$50 for general access and N$150 for the golden circle. Gates open at 12h00 with the first performance expected to start at 14h00. The show will take place at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek.
