Nigeria: Anglican Communion Frowns at Same Sex Marriage

1367647416Same-Sex-Marriage[1]VANGUARD – DIOCESE of Ijebu South/West, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion has frowned at calls for the recognition of same sex marriage, saying that there should be no compromise with same sex community.

It also called on Christians to go into politics and show themselves as the salt and light of Nigeria. Disclosing this in a communique issued at the end of its synod, the Diocese condemned the Federal Government’s decision to celebrate Nigeria’s centenary, adding that the country should be reflecting on the current challenges in the land rather than celebrating.

The communique reads: “All Nigerian Christians are encouraged to go into politics and show themselves as the salt and light of Nigeria.

“The synod charged Christians all over the world to show commitment to their marriage vows as well as the institution of marriage as God hates divorce.

“The synod considered same sex marriage as a sin and therefore a detestable act. The synod reaffirmed the belief that those who indulge in the practice will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

It further said: “Since same sex marriage is contradictory to Christianity, we as Christians must stand for the truth regardless of the cost to us. The synod affirms that there should be no compromise with same sex community.

“The synod vehemently frowns at the Federal Government of Nigeria’s intention to celebrate the centenary of amalgamated Nigeria.

“The synod believes strongly that with myriads of problems facing our country today, Nigeria should be reflecting rather than celebrating, there is nothing to celebrate other than mediocrity, hypocrisy and underdevelopment.”

In addition the communique said, “the synod commended the Ogun State Government for the urban renewal programmes it has embarked upon. But the synod implored the state government to timely pay compensation to the owners/families whose homes and business premises were destroyed in the exercise.”
