Nigeria: Catholic Archbishop Laments Politicians’ Thirst for Blood

Archbishop-Ignatius-KaigamaBy Uju MbanusiAbuja(VANGUARD) — The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama has lamented the blood thirsty inclination of many Nigerian politicians, saying that their greed will take Nigeria nowhere.

Speaking during a special prayer session to mark the mid-term of the life of the National Assembly in Abuja, yesterday, he charged that politicians must practice the politics of holiness to contribute to the task of nation building.

The prayer session for the legislators was held at the St. Mulumba Catholic Chaplaincy, Apo, Abuja.

The Catholic Archbishop said those in authority should imbibe the fear of God if the nation will progress in the right direction, saying that Nigeria as a multi cultural and traditional entity is clouded with series of challenges ranging from insecurity, corruption and socio-economic imbalances.

Assuring that despite the challenges facing the nation, Nigeria will remain one indivisible country, he said: “We need goodwill to be our brother’s keeper. We need an attitudinal change to alleviate the pains and suffering of our fellow country men.”
