Nigeria: Christian Pilgrims Commission’s Employee Attacked in Israel

The Daily Trust – An employee of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) was last Saturday attacked in a hotel in Israel by persons suspected to be Nigerians, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.

The employee who was thrown out of the window from the fourth floor of the hotel by the attackers sustained injuries and is being treated at an Israeli hospital in Jerusalem a source told Daily Trust.

However, the commission issued a terse press statement to say that its staff was involved in an accident in Bethlehem in the course of this year’s pilgrimage operations.

The statement signed by its head of media Toruka Celestine Ogugua said the Israeli security operatives have started investigating the matter and that the results would be communicated “as soon as they are through.”

The victim is said to be from Kaduna state but his suspected assailants are believed to hail from Edo state. They have been arrested by the Israeli security operatives.

The victim was said to be having some money on him which may have attracted the assailants.

Daily Trust could not confirm the name of the victim last night as the officials kept sealed lips because his mother is said to be hypertensive.

The victim’s brother Daily Trust further learnt yesterday set out to Israel.
