Nigeria: Christians Celebrate Peaceful Christmas in Plateau

Leadership, Abuja – The Christmas celebrations in Jos, the Plateau State capital, and its environs were celebrated peacefully amidst tight security.

LEADERSHIP visited some worship centres and other public places in the state and observed that worshipers were well screened before they were allowed access to church premises.

Also there was heavy presence of security operatives around churches and other strategic areas of the state throughout the celebration

On the streets of Jos, the Special Task Force (STF), code-named ‘Operation Safe Haven’, increased temporary checkpoints on the streets throughout the period as security agents were seen conducting vehicular search at all checkpoints across the state.

In the same vein, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also deployed its personnel to enhance free flow of traffic.

LEADERSHIP also observed that at recreation centers vehicles were banned from entering the premises during the Christmas celebration. Handbags were also not allowed into churches in the state.

Our correspondent who visited some bars observed that they were filled to capacity.

The commander of the STF, Major General Major General David Eneite, who monitored the security situation in the state accompanied by selected newsmen during the celebration, said peace had returned to the state.

He called on the people of the state to continue to show love to one another in order to consolidate on the peace currently being enjoyed in the state.
