Nigeria: Church Sues Tenants Over Alleged Rent Default

map_of_nigeria(THE PREMIUM TIMES) The Anglican Church Diocese, New-Bussa, Abuja, on Friday sued two tenants, John Samuel and Melvin Okpara, at the Chief Magistrates’ Court, Gwagwalada, Abuja, for allegedly refusing to pay their annual rent.

The plaintiff said that the defendants had refused to renew his N120,000 rent to the Church since it expired in December 2012.

The plaintiff’s counsel, Enoch Etsu, who filed the suit on behalf of his client, claimed that the defendants had refused to quit the Church apartment after repeated demands.

The Church property is located at Phase 1, Mega Screen, Gwagwalada, in the Nigerian capital.

Both defendants were not in court.

The plaintiff’s counsel said “my lord, the matter is for hearing, but our witness, Mr. Mamud Yanda, is not in court.

“He called me on my cell phone and told me that he was attending lectures at the University of Abuja”.

The Magistrate, Lamido Kabir, after hearing the submissions of the plaintiff’s counsel, adjourned the matter to June 13 for further hearing.
