Nigeria: Security Beefed Up in Redemption Camp

Leadership, Abuja – Security has been beefed up around the sprawling Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where the weeklong activities marking this year’s Holy Ghost Congress, an annual spiritual retreat of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), is taking place.

LEADESRHIP observed the presence of heavily armed police officers brought by the church to secure lives of millions of people from across the globe that converged on the camp for the programme.

The police officers supported by the church security guards were seen screening people into the arena, while those that showed signs of criminal intentions were accosted for questioning.

The programme which started on Monday and attracted millions of people made the camp bubbling with spiritual activities that ranged from praises and worship to counselling of the Christians.

Our correspondent gathered that men of God from Nigeria and abroad minister with the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye from 10 pm on daily basis.

To ensure a blissful congress, LEADERSHIP learnt that facilities in the camp have been upgraded.

Although our correspondent was denied access to their medical facility over issues on accreditation of journalists for coverage of the congress, it was gathered that no fewer than 10 babies have been delivered in the camp by some women that came for prayers since the programme started.

Those in the camp told our correspondent that the water supply capacity had been increased, and there is regular power supply in the camp.

A deacon in the church who gave his name as Paul Yomi said, “at least 10 babies have been delivered in the camp and we are still counting. Some of these women had a very bad medical history but God did it here”.
