Botswana: Police, Church Partnership Fruitful

Daily News, Francistown — As part of the government initiative to bring services closer to the community, the Botswana Police Services resolved to set a day where they would interact with the society and share experiences and ideas.

Speaking during a church service under the theme , Seeking Wisdom, at The Shadow of God International Ministries in Francistown on Sunday, the Overseer of the church Prophet Daniel Morupisi thanked the Police for their gesture to grace the Sunday service, saying this really shows that they have the society’s needs in their hearts.

He stated that their presence in the church indicates that they are an element of the society instead of an enemy as some people perceive.

Mr Morupisi said the police officers need divine wisdom for them to deal with difficult situations they are always faced with in different areas.

He quoted some verses from the book of 2 Chronicles chapter 1, where King Solomon requested God to provide him with wisdom and knowledge so as to be able to guide and judge his people in an appropriate manner.

Furthermore, Prophet Morupisi noted that with the divine wisdom, they would be able to deal with all kinds of characters they encounter and judge accordingly without being biased.

He said just like the church which is being administrated by its constitution, the Bible, the police also are required by the Constitution of the country to enforce the law on its citizens.

Prophet Morupisi said just like God hates sin and not sinners, the police do not hate anyone rather they are against the offences made.

He stated that the community as the custodian of the law should abide by what the law declares so as not to be found on the wrong side and end up in prison.

Prophet Morupisi also mentioned that Police officers are human beings just like any other persons, who have sentiments to deal with.

Kutlwano Police Station Commander Superintendent Neo Serumola said he acknowledges and appreciates the response they got from the church when they requested to attend the service in their church.

He noted that as part of their duty to partner with the community, in their schedule they have a Police Sunday where they pick one church from their policing area and make arrangements with the church for them to be part of the service.

This, he noted, is in order to share ideas with the society and show them they are not their enemies, but rather part of them as they can mingle with them in any occasion.

Supt Serumola said their work demands them to seek spiritual upliftment to face the day-to-day challenges they encounter.

He said what affects an ordinary human being also affects them, hence the need for divine interventions, further mentioning that he concurs with the prophet in what he said and encouraged the church to keep up the good work they are doing.
