Cameroon: Charles Citenga, Best Artiste Gospel Musical Awards 2013

Cameroon Tribune – The premises of the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex were exceptionally busy on Sunday December 15, 2013 as the third edition of the Gospel Musical Awards, organised by DRIMP Foundation, unfolded.

The event brought together talented artistes from Cameroon and Nigeria with national music icons like Grace Deca, Queen Eteme, Madeleine Yombi and David K., among others. The audience that thronged the Yaounde Multipurpose Complex also watched with excitement young talented Christian musicians display rich talents in gospel music.

For the first time in Cameroon was the participation of Uche Agu of the famous joyous celebration of South Africa. Prior to the competition, the audience sang Christian songs in praise and worship to God. The particularity for this year was the reward to artistes of gospel music for their works.

At the end of the competition the trophy for the best gospel music artiste went to Congo’s Charles Citenga. The trophy for the Gospel Revelation for 2013 went to the Group PS; Golden Voices of Eglise Evangelique Jouvence won the best Gospel Choir while Ruth Akande, 14, won the trophy for the best gospel kid.

The Promoter of Gospel Music Awards 2013, Rogers Nforgwei said the purpose of the concert was to entertain people while educating them; promoting values that will help the missions and purpose the leaders have given for themselves. As compared to last year, this year’s event was bigger, more popular with international artistes participating.

Also there were four categories participating whereas last year, there were only choir groups competing. The Gospel Musical Awards is a perfect collision of diverse musical and artistic performances which are registered in Cameroon’s cultural landscape.

The awards are part of the annual cultural activities of the DRIMP Foundation, a non-profit making organisation, which through multiple projects, contributes to the socio-cultural development of the nation.
