Christians in Cameroon joined the rest of the world to celebrate the feast of Ascension yesterday May 9, 2013, the day Christians believe Jesus Christ ascended into heaven. At the Presbyterian Church Bastos Congregation in Yaounde, Christians thronged the church building as early as 9:00 a.m. to celebrate Ascension Day in prayers and thanksgiving.
In his sermon, Rev. Pastor Gustave Ebai Tabi said the feast of Ascension is an opportunity for Christians to repair their relationships with God. He reminded Christians that they have a friend who is in the highest of all places, seated at the right hand of the Father and that friend is Jesus. Drawing from the book of Luke 24:50-53 in the Bible, he said Jesus has ascended into heaven to prepare, first of all, “A place for us when the day comes and also to help us have what we want from the father through him.”
This year’s feast was particular in that it came on the heels of the recent appointments of senators in the House of Senate in Cameroon. Some members of the church were among those appointed. The congregation thanked God for showing favour to members of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, in general, and the PC Bastos Congregation in Yaounde in particular, notably the Rt. Hon. Peter Mafany Musonge and several others. The congregation prayed that God will give them the wisdom they need to carry out the mission assigned to them.
