Ghana: Catholic Bishop condemns in-fighting among Christians

Rev. John Bonaventure KwofieThe Catholic Bishop of Sekondi/Takoradi, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, has expressed concern about the high-level divisions and infighting in Christendom. Although Jesus Christ preached togetherness, love and peace, he said, the partitions and infighting were destroying Christianity.

Delivering the homily at the Benefactors’ Day Celebration at the St Paul’s Catholic Seminary, Sowutuom, last Sunday, Most Rev. Kwofie asked Christians to put aside the issues that divided them and hold on to values of Christendom.

The Benefactors’ Day is celebrated to raise funds to support the priestly training of seminarians in the Catholic Church.

Most Rev. Kwofie said the level of the divisions and infighting in the church was an eyesore.

According to him, some of the divisions pertained to societies or groups in the church and also within societies.

Interestingly, he said, some of the personalities fighting were often the first to join queues for Holy Communion.

Most Rev. Kwofie called for a stop to all the divisions in Christendom, saying that way, “our homes, families and country will live peacefully”.

He prayed for personal renewal of Christians so that it would lead to institutional renewal.

In a welcome address, the Rector of the seminary, Very Rev. Fr Francis Arthur, acknowledged the support of benefactors of the seminary.
