Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an International Evangelist, on Monday noted that Ghana is endowed with the unique privilege of being spared the painful ordeal of political turbulence that have rocked neighbouring countries and parts of the world.
“Ghanaians may not like certain aspects of governance in the past, but our desire for peace brought us to the understanding that this is one nation bequeathed to us through the toil of our forebearers and could only be saved and preserved from war and turmoil as a single entity if we commit ourselves to God through prayer, “ he said.
Dr Tetteh, President and Founder of UK-based World Miracle Outreach made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday ahead of a press conference being jointly held in Accra with the Accra Diocese of the Anglican Church to unveil a three-day crusade at the Black Stars Square on the theme: “ Only Jesus Can Save.”
He said the incessant prayers of Ghanaians for peace and stability had kept the country together and
“This crusade seeks to bring together Christians of the Anglican Church and other denominations to praise, worship and bear witness to the works of our Lord Jesus Christ”.
Dr Tetteh said: “As a nation at a crucial stage of its development and faced with myriad of challenges… what is needed is the singleness of purpose to reach the higher heights we want to attain.
“We have the unique privilege at this stage of our development to partake in presenting our nation and its people to the Lord at the first ever crusade of the Anglican Church at the Black Star Square.”
Dr Tetteh asked the citizenry to come together in the spirit of oneness to fellowship with one another and serve God adding: “This I believe will tap into the peace of God that we need as a pre-condition for a lift-off into the age of prosperity we crave as a nation.”
He said for 21 years, he had been of service to five orthodox churches.
“I thank God and leadership of the orthodox churches for given me the privilege and honour to serve them for the past 21 years,” he said.
He said he jointly held crusades with the Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church at the Black Stars Square and now with the Anglican Church which is one of the first missionary churches established in Ghana in the 18th century.
Right Reverend Dr Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, Bishop of Accra Anglican Diocese, told the GNA that, the crusade is part of the rebranding efforts of the mission to be alive to the commission that Christ the Church.
Bishop Torto said the church has five solid pillars that would underpin “our vision to build Anglican Diocese of Accra”.
These are: “Equipping and empowering church agents-Clergy to deliver excellence; deepening spirituality; growth based on integrity and discipline; financial sustainability, and social impact.”
The crusade spans May 15-May 17 and will be crowned with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, May 19 and will serve as a platform for Christians to offer prayers for the nation to help avert any political upheavals following the ongoing petition at the Supreme Court.
The opening ceremony is expected to be graced by Mrs Georgina Theodora Wood, the Chief Justice.
President John Dramani Mahama and his wife- Lordina will be the special guest of honour at the crusade.
