Christian Council of Ghana – Easter is a time for us to reflect on what our Lord Jesus Christ did for humankind on the cross of Calvary. It commemorates the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ after his redemptive self-sacrifice for the eternal salvation of humankind. It offers us the opportunity to ponder and appreciate the gift of salvation offered to us at Christ’ expense, and guard it jealously.
Christ suffered and endured this painful death on our behalf to show us His unmerited grace and mercies. God’s mercy simply means to be lifted from an undesirable situation to a desirable one while grace is to be lifted unto an undeserving prominent situation just like Jesus exhibited on the cross of Calvary.
As we celebrate this year’s Easter as a nation, we should also use the occasion as an opportunity to unite ourselves as a people, irrespective of our political and religious affiliations, social and economic status.
It is only through unity that comes through grace and mercy that we can develop as a people. In doing so, we should begin to find better ways of engaging in national issues. Politicians, churches, students, families, businesses, faith groups, etc should all find a more peaceful and productive way of engaging on issues that affects them.
As we reflect on the essence of Easter, we urge religious groups, politicians, government, and civil society organizations not to talk at each other; instead, they should talk with each other in addressing issues that affects them and our nation out of grace and mercy.
We should at all times put our love for God and country first in everything that we do. It is in doing so that our engagement with each other will benefit this great nation of ours. Let us put aside our political and personal interests and unite to deal with the current issues that affect our nation.
We admonish everyone with these words by Apostle Paul in Hebrews 4:16; “Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it” (AMP).
