Kenya: Katakwa ACK Marks 21years

kenya_intro_mapBy Reuben Olita (THE STAR) – THE Anglican Church of Kenya’s Katakwa Diocese on Sunday marked their 21st anniversary of achieving Diocesan status. Retired bishop Gerishom Ilukor of Kumi Diocese in Uganda presided over the ceremony.

He told Katakwa faithful to move with speed to meet conditions needed for a full Diocese. Addressing Christians at St John’s Pro-Cathedral, Ilukor said joint effort is required to refurbish the church.

“Funds are needed to complete the Pro-Cathedral and this can be realised with the involvement of all Christians and Teso stakeholders,” he said. “I am happy with the efforts Katakwa Christians depicted in raising more than Sh85,000 in an impromptu harambee for its completion,” he said.

Ilukor said Kumi Diocese will work with their Katakwa counterparts to ensure that Christians and priests from the Diocese receive subsidized university education at Kumi University.

The occasion was moderated by former Secretary of the Church and current Busia Deputy Speaker, Moses Ote and witnessed by host Bishop Zakayo Epus.
