The Star – The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa will intervene in wrangles between its Ruiru church elders and the parish minister. PCEA Moderator Rev David Gathanju said he will take the matter to the highest authority where elders will discuss a solution. The elders sent Rev Julius Waigwa on a forced leave despite resistance by the congregation.
The dispute interrupted church services twice last month. Addressing the congregation on Sunday, Gathanju said the elders will be involved in the talks to find a lasting solution. “The elders and the minister will look into the issue with the hope of finding an amicable solution to the problem,” Gathanju said.
The congregation has accused the church elders of sacrificing Waigwa for his stand against misappropriation of church money. George Ng’ang’a, a member of the church said the elders have failed to mediate over the dispute. Since Waigwa joined this church, we have seen a lot of progress. “We have grown spiritually and the membership has increased,” he said. Ng’anga said Waigwa’s stand on corruption is not supported by the elders .
“The elders are opposed to his style of administration especially when it comes to money matters,” he said. He said the elders have not disclosed their reasons for suspending Waigwa. ” The elders have refused to retire and are instead busy blocking the appointment of new elders against the wishes of the congregation to serve the church.
