Capital FM, Nairobi — President Uhuru Kenyatta has assured that the tussle pitting the Nairobi City County government and the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA),Karen parish, will be resolved soon so that the church be reconstructed.
Speaking on Sunday morning when he joined worshippers for a service at the church, President Kenyatta said he was aware of the land issue since his time as Minister of Local Government.
He assured the congregation that the government will work with the church to ensure the dispute concerning that piece of land is resolved quickly.
“I have come to join you this morning both in worship and in support. Iam very familiar with the history of this piece of land. Around 2001-2002, Reverend John Gatu came to see me and we went through the documents and worked on them. I therefore can confidently say that the rightful owner of this piece of land is the Presbyterian Church of East Africa,” President Kenyatta said.
President Kenyatta urged Christians not to cease praying for the country and for peace to prevail.
The very Reverend John Gatu assured the President that the church will continue supporting and praying for him as he discharges his duties as Head of State.
Rev. Paul Mwangi Kariuki of Karen PCEA parish conducted the service and also delivered the sermon
Nairobi city county officials demolished the church recently accusing the Presbyterian Church of East Africa of land grabbing.
However, the PCEA church has maintained that it acquired the land legally and has all the supporting documents.
The battle for the plot dates back over ten years and structures built by the church have been demolished twice this year.
