Kenya: ‘Stand Up for the Truth’, Fr Musau Urges the Youth

Catholic Information Service for Africa, Nairobi — Daystar Catholic Community (DCC) Co-ordinator Fr Dominic Musau has urged the youth to stand firm and defend the Catholic faith despite the many tribulations they face.

Speaking during the DCC members group meeting at Consolata Sisters Flora Hostels in Nairobi on Saturday November 9, Fr Musau said that the youth need to get into the scriptures and the Catholic Church teachings to effectively defend themselves against any accusation and ensure that they remain committed to the church at all times.

“We are accused of not understanding our faith because we do not know the truth; we are not firm about it. The truth about the church is in the scriptures, sacramental life amongst other sources. We need to be proud of our faith and not to confront others in a negative way”, said Fr Musau.

Fr Musau challenged the members of DCC consisting mostly of the youth to understand that the church is keenly addressing family planning issues through the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) and had put modalities to ensure that the process is workable through dialogue.

“Young people need to be educated on the changes of modern technology. The internet through the social sites has misled young people and therefore need to be motivated and educated to care for their spiritual welfare’, asserted Fr Musau.

Fr Musau is in-charge of Mary Mount Chapel at Daystar University, Athi River about 29 kilometres East of Nairobi City in the Catholic Diocese of Machakos.

Over ten sisters and priests addressed the occasion where the youth were enlightened on the role of Mary Mother Jesus, the accusations of worship of statues in the church and the modern technology and its effects amongst the youth in the Catholic Church.

Youth from Nairobi and the Athi River campuses attended the function and participated actively in the discussion.

Daystar University is a non – Catholic university but the Diocese of Machakos through the stewardship of Bishop Martin Kivuva Musonde was able to erect a chapel in the university’s main campus ten years ago.

The chapel serves all the three Daystar campuses of Nairobi, Mombasa and Athi River.
