Leadership (Abuja) – The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, on Tuesday in Abuja congratulated adherents of the Islamic faith, especially women, on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The message is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Ayo Adesugba, a Director of Information in the Presidency.
It said the First Lady urged Muslim women to use the opportunity of the celebrations to reflect.
“You should reflect on how women can be part of the vanguard which promotes peaceful co-existence and religious tolerance in their communities individually and collectively.
“I also urge that you use the festive occasion to offer thanksgiving,” the statement quoted Jonathan to have said.
The First Lady appealed to them to spare a thought for the less privileged during the season by demonstrating gestures of kindness to them.
She said this was important because Islam is a religion of love and compassion.
Jonathan reiterated the importance of prayers, and urged all Muslim faithful to use the occasion of the Eid-el-Kabir to offer prayers for the country’s unity, progress and prosperity.
