BY YASINTA AMOS – Tanzania Daily News (Dar es Salaam) Arusha — THE Platform of Mosque Imams in Arusha Region have released a statement regarding the recent church bombing in the city saying the incident was unfortunate and appealed for combined efforts among Tanzanians to maintain peace.

Read before a special congregation held at the Main Bondeni Mosque, the statement presented by Sheikh Mustafa Kiago advised that such an incident should not be interpreted on religious grounds because by doing so, it will preempt investigations and possibly make the culprits walk free as innocent people get booked.

In addition to that, the Moslem leaders also advised politicians not to use the incident as political capital because when people gets divided the enemy will use the loophole to stage further attacks.

The Sheikh of Bondeni Mosque, Mr Mohammed Ambali, warned other politicians who try to drag the name of President Jakaya Kikwete into political quagmire, which is also tainted on religious bias, adding that attacking the head of state on such grounds, will split the nation and plunge the country into crisis.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist, Mr Victor Ambrose Kalisti (20), who was arrested at the scene of the blast at Olasiti area that Sunday (May 5), appeared in court yesterday before Resident Magistrate Ms Devotha Kamuzora charged with the bombing incident.

He appeared before the Arumeru District Court where 21 charges including murder and attempted murder was read before him and his case is set for mention on the 10th of June
