Worcester pair busted at Macy’s in Natick

SophMetro West Daily News – Two Worcester women stole nearly $2,000 worth of clothing from a Natick Mall store on Monday, authorities said.

Police arrested Linda Eunice Kwakye, 35, and Gertrude Takyi, 28, after store security caught them stealing the jewelry and clothing, according to a Natick Police report filed in Natick District Court on Tuesday.

Store security told police they watched the two women grab numerous pieces of jewelry from a display case and bring them to the clothing aisle. The two women took several items of clothing into the dressing room and left empty-handed a few minutes later.

“The only thing left in the dressing room were empty clothes hangers,” according to the report.

Store security stopped the women outside of the store and brought them back. They found the women stole 17 pieces of jewelry, including rings, ear rings, bracelets and necklaces. They also stole eight dresses and five shirts, according to the report. The women had shoved all of the stolen items into their purses and pockets, police wrote.

Police charged both Kwakye and Takyi, of 285 Plantation St., Worcester, with larceny of property worth more than $250 and conspiracy to commit a crime.

At Kwakye’s and Takyi’s Natick District Court arraignment on Tuesday, prosecutors did not ask for bail and Judge Lynn Coffin Brendemuehl released them and ordered them to stay away from Macy’s.

Kwakye and Takyi are due back in court April 11 for a pretrial conference.
