By Ernest Best Anane (The Chronicle) Kumasi — Rev. Elvis Kwadwo Sarpong, Old Tafo District Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in Kumasi, has commended a former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Martin Amidu, for standing firm for the truth, which cost him his position as Minister.

The Pastor said Martin Amidu’s feat was more commendable for the fact that his stance had saved the nation $47 million.

According to Rev. Sarpong, with ten people with the calibre of Martin Amidu who can stand by the truth, the nation would have made giant strides and advanced further than where we are, hence the need to commend and encourage him, and to inspire others to sacrifice for the nation.

The Pastor bemoaned the prevalence of mistrust, interference by political and opinion leaders, and laxity of the laws, alleging that the enforcement agencies were also guilty of breaching the law to the disadvantage of society generally.

He said it was high time our politicians, opinion leaders, and their cohorts realised that they were not above the law, and must allow the law, rules and regulations of this country to work and make Ghana attractive to investors.

Rev. Sarpong expressed concern about the emergence of corrupt practices in all spheres of human endeavour, and urged the likes of Martin Amidu to help nip corruption in the bud.
