Students from TYWLS and the CSLSJ Attend United Nations’ 63rd Annual Commission on the Status of Women

On Friday March 15th, in honor of Women’s History Month, Assemblymember Victor M. Pichardo (Bronx – D) sponsored a trip in which high school seniors from The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) participated in the 63rd Annual Commission on The Status of Women (CSW) organized by the United Nations. Another group of high-schoolers from the Charter School for Law and Social Justice (CSLSJ) also went on Tuesday, March 12th.

The CSW is exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. On both trips, students discussed the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), measures to protect women against human trafficking in the most vulnerable areas of the world, as well as  gender equity gaps in the workforce, specific to the Caribbean.

“It is important to celebrate and acknowledge the brave and fearless women who have fought for change, but it is also critically important to empower young women and remind them that they deserve every chance and opportunity to pursue their own dreams. Therefore, it is my pleasure to offer these incredible women this amazing opportunity.” said Assemblymember Victor M. Pichardo.
