Central African Republic Rebels Target Christians

Rebels in the Central African Republic reportedly are looting and destroying Christian homes and churches.

Rebel forces took the capital Bangui over the weekend, forcing the president to flee to neighboring Cameroon.

According to the World Watch Monitor, Christian leaders say armed men are targeting Christian communities while leaving Muslim neighborhoods untouched.

It’s also happening in other parts of the country.

The Bishop of Bangoussou said the rebels destroyed several churches, Catholic schools, and medical facilities but did not harm mosques.

In Bambari, they reportedly destroyed a Baptist church and burned the pews as firewood.

The Central African Republic is mostly Christian, but there is a small Muslim population in the north. That’s where the rebellion began three months ago and observers believe most of the rebels are Muslim.
