Laity of Methodist Church of Ghana attend colloquium

78852175Ghana News Agency  – The Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel K. Asante, has urged Lay leaders of the various Dioceses of the Church to ensure that the strong societies under them sponsor the weak ones to boost their morale towards the promotion of the work of the Lord.

The Most Rev. Prof. Asante made the call at a three-day Colloquium organised by the Connexional Lay Movement Council of the Church at Winneba.

The theme for the Colloquium was: “The Laity and Teaching for Effective Christian Formation.’

He said one of the core missionary activities of Christ Jesus whom they are following, was evangelism, in order to gather all creation back unto God; adding that as laity, they should go into the world and embark on evangelism, organize revivals to win more souls unto the Lord; making disciples of all nations and promoting unity in the Church. He assured the laity that their labour will not be in vain.

The Presiding Bishop used the occasion to advise Ministers of the gospel who ride in posh cars to learn to serve the people in humility and lead them to attain salvation.

He said as front liners, ministers of the word should ensure that monies collected are well utilized towards the growth of the church, and for the well-being of members.

The National President of Lay Leaders of the Church, Mr. J. E. K. Pratt, said the Colloquium is an annual affair, and it is for the leaders to take stock of the previous year’s activities, discuss important issues affecting the Church, and formulate strategies that will help them achieve their objectives and aims as ambassadors of the gospel.

Alternate ways of funding the church, and prudent financial management, an important tool for the growth of business and the church were among topics treated at the Colloquium.
