Worcester, Massachusetts – The St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 570 Lincoln Street in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts was the center of attraction for all Christians of the Roman Catholic tradition on Sunday October 13, 2013. The attention of the entire Ghanaian Community in Worcester was focus on the church as many Ghanaian prepared in anticipation to attend the special Mass which was to be officiated by the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, His Excellency Peter Akwasi Sarpong. The Archbishop Emeritus paid a visit to the Worcester Community in Massachusetts on this special day to be a blessing to the Church.

The Archbishop Emeritus who has come from a humble beginning from Offinso-Maase in the Ashanti region of Ghana to his current position as an authoritative statesman on matters of religion and culture was beaming with an aura of grace when he entered the church for the 2:00pm Mass service. This is the first visit of Archbishop Emeritus Sarpong to the Worcester Community. The Archbishop Emeritus who celebrated his 80th birthday this year told the congregation he had been in hospital for some time and that it took a great deal of effort on his part to honor the visit.

Archbishop Emeritus Sarpong based his sermon on the story of Naaman in the Bible and preached on faith and obedience to the congregation. He also touched on areas relating to religious, cultural and social developments in Ghana. Many of the congregation who talked to the Christian Journal reporters was grateful for the visit, while others were happy to be present at such an important Mass service.
The Archbishop Emeritus will spend a few days in the United States before returning to Ghana.
