Liberia: Church Dedicates Hand Pumps in Sinoe

The Community of Christ Church in Liberia has constructed and turned over two hand pumps to communities in Kpanyan and Juahzon Districts in Sinoe County.

The two projects, according to the Church’s President Reverent J. Sackor Dixon, is valued at US$10,000.00. About 20,000 residents of two towns in the districts, [Kwitatuzon and Jarwee Towns] are expected to benefit from the project.

The project is titled: “Abolish Poverty and End Suffering,” with sponsorship from the Tangible Love, an NGO arm of the Community of Christ World Church.

Rev. Dixon said the project is intended to help the people in the communities and Liberia with safe drinking water.

He also stated that the provision of the water in the two communities is part of the church’s effort to support the government of Liberia in the provision of basic social services to the people.

The hand pumps were turned over to the community leaders with spare parts and tools for the maintenance of the projects. According to Rev. Dixon, the church also trained members of the two communities in how to repair and maintain the pumps.

He told the community members to also ensure that the projects are properly maintained. Prior to the construction of the hand pumps in the two areas, members of the communities fetched water from various nearby creeks and other unprotected sources for domestic and other purposes.

The Church’s President also disclosed that the church has already targeted over 25 communities across rural Liberia to carry out similar projects.

The turning over ceremonies separately carried out in Kwitatuzon and Jarwee Towns were witnessed by officials of the Liberian Government, including chiefs, elders, the Ministry of Public Works Resident Engineer in Sinoe County, among others.

Receiving the projects, the community leaders expressed appreciation to the church and promised to properly maintain the project.
